Correct Addressing For Save the Date Envelopes

!: Correct Addressing For Save the Date Envelopes

Be careful when addressing you save the dates. If you make this mistake you just might end up inviting more people than you think to your wedding.

Before getting into the addressing of the save the date let's take a moment to review exactly what a save the date card is and why we use it. Save the date cards are basically sent out to friends and family who will be attending the wedding. They are generally sent out a year to six months before the wedding to allow everyone time to get the wedding date into their schedule or make travel arrangements ahead of time. This is very important especially if the couples wedding is going to be coinciding with a holiday like Christmas, New Years, the Fourth of July and Thanksgiving. We all know how difficult is is to travel during these times and couples should give attendees plenty of time if it is scheduled during or near these holidays.

There have also been questions about how to address save the date envelopes when they are being sent to relatives and family. In particular, as to whether or not to include just the names of the relative or "and family" after the names. For example, "Mr. and Mrs. John Doe" or "Mr. and Mrs. John Doe and Family". To answer this question it really depends on the couple if they want to invite them or not. It is up to them, the confines of their budget etc...to invite them or not. More precisely, the correct wording in the address should only be addressed to the name of the guest being invited and NOT to include "and family". Other names can be included if the bride wishes by placing another card in the envelope or written on the save the date itself. Remember though, this is similar to an invitation and serves an an indication to you and the guest who may be attending. I hope this helps and congratulations!
